Because it's a lot of work to keep a website up-to-date and developers
like to spend their time developing code rather than maintaining websites.

Yes, I'm hoping to have some time to spend on this as well as to get
some help, but to be honest, I'd rather be coding...

No, everyone finds it annoying. But complaints don't fix the problem
and there isn't a copious supply of money to simply pay someone to make
it all wonderful. It's free open source after all so we don't get a
penny per download or anything useful like that.
