Hi Nebula-Users,

I guess many of you are not following the dev list but there are some
upcoming changes on the structure of Nebula.

a) On Restructuring
----------------
We decide to split nebula from a project point of view into 2 projects.
One with widget working towards a Nebula 1.0 release in Q2 2011 and
those still need incubation time.

b) On Releasing
---------------
After a) has happened we'll start the process of releaseing Nebula 0.9
with the set of components who'll go for 1.0.

c) On Version-Control
---------------------
The nebula-devs decided that we'll switch from CVS to Git. I think this
is a very interesting thing for you and us and I highly appreciate that
our developers decided to move to git.

d) On Build
-----------
As some of you already noticed there are currently no downloads
available and we are really sorry about this but our builds got broken
out of a sudden and we decided not to invest our small volunteer
resources to fix the build but to resetup our build from scratch by
moveing away from athena.

We are currently working on a maven-tycho infrastructure so that our
build is hopefully not broken in future anymore. We are sorry about the
inconvenience but it's been the only possibility for now.

I think a) and b) are major steps forward in the history of Nebula and
puts many of you in a better position when using Nebula components in
your projects.

We naturally appreciate any feedback

Tom Schindl - Nebula-Project-Lead

Tom,
This is good news since a couple of us are already using the widgets and look forward to better control, documentation, and hopefully examples in the future. In the meantime however, I am working with the XViewer source I downloaded from the Nebula sight. It looks to also contain the XViewer test code. I am trying to figure out what parts belong in the API and which parts do not so I can use it as intended. Do you or anyone on the team have any XViewer examples that I could examine for this purpose. I have the test code but it does not make a good candidate for an example. It uses internal libraries that probably only exist for testing. It is difficult to tell what interfaces should be implemented in order to use the widgets and which should be only accessed by XViewer only. Documentation is scarce to say the least so any help on this would be appreciated. We are invested in many of the Nebula widgets, want to continue, and can't put the project on hold until the 2ndQ of next year. Maybe some of the lessons learned here can help you and your team along in your future development?

Thanks if you can help and thanks if you can't, we'll be watching either way,
Mike

Hi Mike,

I'm only the Project Lead and have no really knowlegde about XViewer but
I'll bring this up on the dev-mailing list because for Compontents
taking part in the release answering user questions is a must have.
