Generating editor with limited functionality [message #619809] Wed, 21 May 2008 09:38

Hello,

for a project work I need to create an UML editor (probably only
implementing state machine diagrams) with limited functionality (I only
need a few tools, not the whole palette available when using the standard
UML2Tools editor).
Additionally, I want to implement some constraints to further limit or
check drawn diagrams. Finally, the diagram should be saved as a textual
UML2 representation to be used with other tools.

I tried different approaches (for example I tried using the GMF
tutorial/cheat sheet with the UML2.ecore and .genmodel files - waaaaay too
complex), but it seems that a light-weight extension with profiles would
be the best way. I found the slides and example from EclipseCon 2008
(#172), but I'm not sure on how to adapt those to my specific requirements.

It would be highly appreciated if somebody could point me into the right
direction, as I feel a bit lost at the moment. Some small steps on how to
start would be very helpful!

Best regards, Stefan
