Hello,
following the eclipse 3.3 help, i tried to start a ecf-server to test
shared editing. But i immediately got stucked, cause i couldn't find
org.eclipse.ecf.server.generic feature in my europa installation. Any tip,
where the server is located in europa release or where i can download the
server ?

Hi,
I'm also having (major) problems trying to set up an ECF server. I've tried downloading the full ECF package using anonymous CVS. Included is an cmd-file to start the server, but when trying to run this, the class path seems to be wrong. So I tried to fix that in the cmd-file and now I get an Exception in the main-thread. I've also tried the other methods mentioned above, but without any success: Equinox doesn't seem to recognize the server bundle (by the way, that's really a lot of trouble just for setting up a simple server!!!! ), i've tried to run eclipse -application ... to start the server, but that leads to a crash during the splashscreen or just a splashscreen and then nothing...
I really don't think I'm asking something really difficult here, I just want to test the pair programming and shared editor functions. But I get stuck in the first step and have been searching for over 5 hours now to get a simple server up and running. That can't be the purpose of this piece of software...
For those who wonder what I'm trying, I'm just following this guide: http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Example_Shared_Text_Editor
and broke down at number 1 (trying to start a generic server)
Please help me
Kind regards

Thanks for the quick response!
I was already working with version 1.0.1 and following the instructions from http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/ECF_Servers .
I'v tried removing the splashscreen and logging the details and while trying to start the server, I get a lot of exceptions. I also find it peculiar that i'm starting the org.eclipse.ecf.provider.AppGenericServer, shouldn't this be: org.eclipse.ecf.provider.app.genericServer ????
Well, I've tried that, but the program terminates and I can't get a clear view of what's happening. I see a lot of !MESSAGE - lines, but that's in a flash, before the window closes again.
I would like to provide you with the error-logs but I can't seen to log them into a file, when I execute the eclipse.exe -applicat... command, a new DOS window opens, and closes after it's done, so I can't redirect the output in a file. Any idea on how to force the shell to run eclipse.exe in the same shell so I can redirect my output?
Thanks again!

Hi Alex and Scott,
I've reinstalled Eclipse and only used the necessary plugins and packages (before, I transferred the whole bunch to my eclipse folder) and then I checked the dependancies.
The server still gives a few errors and exceptions before starting up, but seems to work fine!
Thanks a lot for your (very quick) help!!!!!!
Greetings
