UML Class Diagrams - XMI Import [message #608305] Fri, 05 October 2007 18:11

I am pretty new to XMI and UML. I have been trying to find out if there is a
way that UML Class Diagrams are saved in a universal format (XMI seems to
be this), no matter what UML tool created the XMI for the UML Class Diagram,
so that I can build a just part of the UML Class Diagram for my eclipse
plugin. UML2Tools seems like it can build a UML Class Diagram from XMI which
was produced by any UML tool, but I'm not sure. XMI seems like the way to
go for universal UML Class Diagram representation but the specification left
me confused. UML2Tools seems like it would be what I am looking for if it
has some kind of XMI importer that I can use for parsing the XMI, and then
use the data that was parsed from the XMI to build only what I need of the
UML Class Diagram. So, my main questions are:

1.) In XMI, is there a universal format representing all
the features of a UML Class Diagram (like operations, scope, parameters,
fields, etc...).

2.) Does UML2Tools have such an importer to import an XMI file and parse
UML Class Diagram data from it, no matter what UML tool was used to create
the XMI?

Any help you can provide or answers to these questions would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you
