On several occasions I have tried to integrate short hand written methods
into the visual environment. For example, I wanted to add a scrollpane to
a mostly completed visual component so I wrote get methods for a
JScrollPane and a ScrollPaneLayout consistent with the guidelines in
"Source code generated and parsed by the visual editor." However I get
visual warnings (!) that show a tooltip mentioning an
illegalArgumentException and the phrase "currently methods need receiver."
In other cases I have seen the exception "expression "foo" is too
complicated." I assume the "too complicated" warning means the parser
simply gave up but the "need receiver" message sounds as if there is one
specific thing that needs to be fixed. What is a "receiver" and can I fix
this problem easily?
Sorry if this question has been addressed in the NG before but my
company's access policies only allow me to use the web interface to this
NG which does not appear to have search capabilities.
