Internal Error during "Create Remote VM"? [message #607829]

I've setup Ecliplse 3.1m7 and run the updates (via help/software update)
to get the VE up and runing. When I try to bring one of my visual jave
projects up, I get a series of error popups. The error messages are:

first & second popup) An internal error occured during: "Create Remote VM
for Visual Editor for Java"

third popup) An internal error occured during: "Setup Java Visual Editor".

I have both j2re1.4.2 and jre1.5.0_03 installed and have switched between
then (in the project settings), but the errors are the same.

Could someone who understands Java better than I do (not hard:-) help me
fix the problem?
