FYI:

Slashdot has posted a link to a page at Rational's web site that
indicates the IBM will purchase Rational:

Does anyone here know what the implications, if any, are for Eclipse?

Given that Rational was already an Eclipse consortium member. I suspect
that either Eclipse, or the WebSphere products built on Eclipse, will
see much greater tool integration with Rational's suite of tools. This
is a natural fit for Eclipse, given its modular plugin architecture.

Projects such as Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF) and the OMG Model
Driven Architecture might well figure into this increased integration:
