Dear Lars,

This question seems to fall under the [GEMS] component of the GMT project:

http://www.eclipse.org/gmt/gems/

I copy this answer to the corresponding newsgroup.

The problem of interoperability of EMF models and metamodels
with other kinds of models and metamodels (i.e. GME but not only)
is a very important one.

You may find a report on an initial feasibility study
that was made some times ago in:

http://www.softmetaware.com/oopsla2005/bezivin2.pdf

Eclipse is not an island. We need to consider seriously
external models as well, by providing convenient import/export facilities.
Another example of model and metamodel
interoperability concerns Microsoft DSL Tools.

Best regards,

Jean
