We are working on some eclipse plug-ins that will allow our users to do
some basic data mining. We have data scattered across multiple
(seemingly unrelated) tables and databases. Our users wish to query
data across these tables and databases without having to be SQL
experts. We need the ability to display the data in a single table
from multiple sources where a field in one table might be found as a
primary key in a completely different (legacy) database. We are
currently experimenting with an emf model of the meta data in a
database that will allow users to discover commonality between
databases, allow developers to design in commonality into new
databases, and hide ugly table and column names from users. Have I
come to the right place?
