Ember (www.ember.com) enables communication among embedded
microcontrollers with standards-based wireless mesh networking
semiconductors and software. Spun out of MIT in 2001, Ember is
headquartered in Boston and has its radio development center in Cambridge,
England and distributors worldwide. Ember helps its customers to automate
homes, lower energy consumption in buildings, keep borders and
infrastructure secure, and control industrial processes, just to name four
of the many diverse applications being developed by Embers
customers.Ember is a promoter of the ZigBee Alliance, and its platform is
the National Technical Systems (NTS) Golden Suite for 802.15.4/ZigBee
interoperability testing. Ember has been named one of Red Herring's "Top
100 Innovators" for 2004 and Fortune Magazine's to "Cool Companies."
Ember seeks a Senior Software Engineer to work on our development
toolchain, including our IDE, our network traffic visualization and
analysis engine, and our distributed embedded debugging infrastructure.
Ember customers use these tools to design and develop end products
incorporating our embedded wireless networking technology.
Responsibilities:
Participate in the definition and implementation of an Eclipse based
development environment for embedded wireless networking applications
Work with customers during product definition and delivery to help
gather requirements
Ensure that the User Experience for the product is superior
GUI design & development
Requirements:
5+ years experience in GUI application development with Java or C/C++
GUI toolkit
Extensive experience with MVC patterns and event-driven, multi-threaded
architectures.
Eclipse based tool development preferred
Experience with development tools for embedded systems
Strong background in Java required, knowledge of C a plus
Excellent understanding of object-oriented design & development
Ability to quickly absorb new ideas in various domains
Expertise with advanced programming techniques
Extensive experience with software engineering processes and the full
software development lifecycle including requirements, design,
implementation, and testing, and deployment
Experience using both simulations and hardware test networks a plus
A track record of successful product development and a demonstrated
ability to contribute new ideas to a team
Experience with software development in a startup environment
Excellent writing and communication skills
BS/MS in EE and/or CS
