Where did "Window->Preferences" go in Helios? [message #555813] Sat, 28 August 2010 22:42 Go to next message

So I cannot figure out where to set my preferences because the "Preferences" menu item is not in the Windows menu any more. Anybody know what the deal is with this?

Alexander,

For me it continues to be the last choice on the Windows menu. Which
OS are you running?

I also have this problem! The Preferences menu item is missing from the Window menu. It should appear after the Navigation menu item, but it is missing entirely. I'm running the Helios version of Eclipse on Mac OS X Snow Leopard. Any suggestions? Thanks! Lynne

I think on Mac Preferences are under the File menu.

Thanks Deepak - I wasn't sure if the Preferences under the Eclipse menu was the same as the Preferences that I was expecting to find under the Window menu. I'll poke around using the Eclipse->Preferences. Thanks, Lynne

It is the same, this is one of the Mac specific features of Eclipse.

This points to schizophrenia in the world. On Firefox, these are under
Edit on Linux, Tools on Windows. Who knows why things like this happen?

At least on Mac, Eclipse is following the UI guidelines set forth by
Apple. Virtually all OS X applications have Preferences under the app's
"main/title" menu, and accessible via Command+. An OS X user expect it
to be there and nowhere else.

Hi

On the Mac, just hit [ctrl]+[,] to open the preferences dialog. This
works for all "well behaved" OS X programs including Eclipse. So you
don't need to search in the menus...

Take care,
Michael

Off course, it's [command]+[,] not ctrl as I just wrote...
