"Computing Size" Error when installing plugins for Helios [message #546355] Mon, 12 July 2010 10:33 Go to next message

Hello,

I am having trouble with Helios on CentOS5.3 (RHEL5.3) Linux x64. I am using JRE 1.6.0.14

I have Helios x64 installed on a central NFS server for access by a number of people. This setup works for Eclipse v3.5

After install, I ran up Helios as an admin, and was able to install the latest Subclipse plugin using the GUI "Install software" feature.

However if I try and install anything else using the GUI - Mylyn or Pydev for example, I get:

"Computing Size has encountered a problem. An internal error occurred during 'Computing Size'''

Under 'Details' the error is given as: 'The profile is currently in use'.

I tried a clean install of Helios again and installed Pydev first, which then worked, but then Subclipse gives the above error. The fact the first plugin installs, whether it be Pydev or Subclipse, and subsequent ones fail makes me think it isn't one particular plugin causing the issue

As an alternative I tried copying Pydev's 'features' and 'plugins' folders to the dropins folder as directed by the install guide, but the plugin only appears when the app is run as admin, which obviously our regular users can't do. I guess it's a permissions problem there.

So my questions are:

How can I get round the compute size error.

If not, how can I get the plugins read by all users if they are manually copied to dropins.

Thanks
Nick

Ok, it seems to be an issue with installing plugins to Eclipse on an NFS server. If I copy the install to my local hard disk I can then install plugins using the GUI.

Our NFS server is 9TB, I wonder if that is too big in some way? I'm not sure what 'Compute Size' actually refers to.

I will see if I can install all the plugins I need locally as root, then copy the whole lot back to the server.

I have a similar problem and, after reading your post, I think it relates to running eclipse from an external hard drive. One time, I followed this advice and it worked, perfectly:

But now, something else is wrong, I guess. If all else fails, I'll follow the suggestion here to move Eclipse off my external drive, update it, then move it back.

My issue was using shared network drive I was running Eclipse Luna from and used plugin archive to install from. Once I moved both Eclipse Luna and plugin archive to C: drive all went well. I guess this is the solution.
