Hello newsgroup,
I'm currently writing my diploma thesis on the topic "Generic Model
Refactoring". I follow another approach than the "EMF Refactor" project.
But I think they could profit from this appeal, too. With my approach it
is possible to specify refactorings in a target metamodel independent
way and activate them by a simple mapping. By this technique it is
possible to reuse refactorings not only for arbitrary target metamodels
but within different structures of a single metamodel as well. To
collect information from praxis I published a short online survey [1]. I
want to ask you to fill out the little questionnaire to gather
information of which refactorings are needed in your daily work. Often,
an indicator for a refactoring need is when you have to re-structure
your models by hand in always in the same way. If you are interested for
more details I suggest a little wiki [2] where some information about my
concept can be found and a catalog of those refactorings we could
realise until now. Note to myself: stop implementing, start writing the
thesis. Furthermore, you can watch a little screencast [3]. If my survey
is successful (i.e. if it is filled out by enough peaple) I will publish
the result of course. I would appreciate it if you fill out my
questionnaire. I posted the same message in the emf newsgroup, too, and
I think it would be better to take the discussion (if any) only in one
group. So please ask questions and discuss not in this newsgroup but in
the emf group.
