Headless 3.6 installation not working [message #518661] Thu, 04 March 2010 12:23 Go to next message
Eclipse UserFriend
I'm trying to do a headless installation (this time not behind a proxy) of 3.6.

Following the book I first did:

./director -r http://download.eclipse.org/tools/buckminster/headless-3.6 -d ../buckminster -p buckminster -i org.eclipse.buckminster.cmdline.product
Installing org.eclipse.buckminster.cmdline.product 1.2.0.r11245.

which worked fine

then I tried

./buckminster install http://download.eclipse.org/tools/buckminster/headless-3.6 org.eclipse.buckminster.core.headless.feature

which fails with

An error occurred while installing the items
[0]session context was:(profile=buckminster, phase=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.p2.engine.phases.Install, operand=null --> [R]com.ibm.icu.base 4.2.1.v20100112, action=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.p2.touchpoint.eclipse.actions.InstallBundleAction).
[0]Error while loading manipulator.

Did I do something wrong or should I report this as a bug?

Hi Patrick,

p2 doesn't like relative paths for the "-d" argument. Using an absolute path
should work.

Cheers,
Achim

Thank you very much, that was exactly the problem.

Now I'm stuck at trying to install svn support

./director -r http://download.cloudsmith.com/buckminster/external/ -d /home/build/bin/buckminster/buckminster -p Buckminster -i org.eclipse.buckminster.subversive

results in

Hi Patrick,
A while back we were forced to split the external update site in two due to API differences. So you have to use:

http://download.cloudsmith.com/buckminster/external-3.6/

in conjunction with other 3.6 stuff.

HTH,

This doesn't seem to work

./director -r http://download.cloudsmith.com/buckminster/external-3.6/ -d /home/build/bin/buckminster/buckminster -p Buckminster -i org.eclipse.buckminster.subversive

results in

Installing org.eclipse.buckminster.subversive 1.0.0.r11210.

Application failed, log file location: /home/build/bin/buckminster/director/configuration/1267736735689.log

From the files in the plugin directory it looks like

org.eclipse.buckminster.core_1.2.360.r11245.jar

is installed, so it looks like subversive plugin depends on an old version of the core.

HI Patrick,
I'll look into that. Meanwhile, I suggest you try subclipse.

Thanks for your help, subclipse seems to have the same issue

Installing org.eclipse.buckminster.subclipse 1.0.0.r11210.
Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.

Do you have the org.eclipse.buckminster.core.headless.feature installed?

Yes, the problem seems to be a version. I already edit my top post but I guess if you read this via mail/newsboard you didn't get the changes

From the files in the plugin directory it looks like

is installed, so it looks like subversive plugin depends on an old version of the core.

No, that dependency is a >= 1.1.340 so that's not the problem. Something must be amiss with your installation of the
core feature. I have no problem using the headless subclipse feature.

I found the problem. In the book it says

... -p Buckminster ...

but it actually needs to be

... -p buckminster ...

Or to be completely correct, it has to be the same used in the first call from the directory, so that the same profile is used.

The subversive plugin works now as well, thanks again for your big help.

Can you please log an issue for buckminster documentation, and indicate
where the -p Buckminster is...

I checked again, and it looks like it is consistent throughout all places, both the download page and the book use Buckminster everywhere.
