What I type isn't what shows up [message #514006] Thu, 11 February 2010 22:19 Go to next message

I was working away when Eclipse (Ganymede) sort of stopped responding.... and I was whacking away at the keys before I knew it. When it did start responding, what I type isn't what shows up.

For example, if I type a less than symbol (<), I get a semi-colon (;). If I type a semi-colon, I get a spanish n (the one with the little squiggly above it). I type a left paren, I get a right one, a question mark (?) becomes an underscore (_).
I suspect my editor is "thinking" in another locale, or maybe it thinks it is a different device but I don't know how to change it back.

I looked through preferences and nothing jumped out at me. Is there like an alternate keyboard or keyboard shortcut that toggles to different languages?

The used input language is an OS setting.

After restarting the computer overnight, it seems to be back to normal. I had, however, narrowed it down to symbols... normal characters typed just fine, but it was like the symbol table had shifted off by some.

In any case, I was going to map the whole thing this morning and see if there was some science to how far they were off, but, like I said, it's back to normal.

I'm not sure if it required a full machine restart (though Eclipse was the only thing doing it), or just to have restarted Eclipse.

Either way, kind of strange.
