Hi,

i am writing a research project about Eclipse RCP. The major task is to show that Eclipse RCP is supporting development of the modern applications. Till now i wrote about basics concepts of Eclipse RCP such as reusability of plugins, workbench, user-friendliness aspects (Welcome Pages, Cheat Sheets, kontext sensitive Help), SWT+JFace, Eclipse Forms.

My Problem is, that i don't know what can i else write about. Have You any idea?

I was also looking for some statistics (e.g. how many firms are using Eclipse RCP for developing the software) about Eclips RCP, but i didn't find anything remarkable. Do You maybe know some interesting pages with such statistics?

Thanks in forward for Your Help.

Hi

You could also write about support of model-driven development, thanks to EMF and all related technologies (GMF, EMFT, M2M) and great diagramming capabilities (GEF, GMF). More generally, reads the description of all Eclipse projects, and you'll see why developping RCP apps is very cool and productive thanks to all the features provided by those projects.

Hi Ranger,

you can find many use cases of RCP here:
http://www.eclipse.org/community/rcp.php

For me one of the reasons why Eclipse RCP is good is the extensibility of the
applications that you get for free when you build applications based on the
framework. It's very easy for other developers to write plug-ins for your own
applications.

There are a lot of resources on the web, a good starting point is:
http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Rich_Client_Platform

What is your research project exactly about? Are the results to be made public?

Greetings,

Ralf

Hi,

@ Lars and Mickael: thanks a lot for Your answers.

I'm gonna go in for a closer look of model-driven development and GEF+ GMF. I'm also considering writing something about Enterprise Eclipse RCP.

Best regards

Ranger

Hi Ralf,

thanks for Your answer and links. Your reply is also very helpful.

The topic of my research project is: "Eclipse RCP as standard for developing of modern Applications".
I am writing this project for my study at my university of applied science and i am not sure if the results will be published.

The problem ist that this project should have 20-25 pages. So i have to pick up the most important issues to show that Eclipse RCP is really supporting development of the modern applications.

Once again, thanks for Your help.

Best regards

Ranger
