I've been looking at using BIRT as a reporting tool as part of a product
but am concerned about how difficult it has been to use a common library.
I may have misunderstood how libraries are used within BIRT.
My plan was to use a common library between reports to store shared Data
Sets, Data Cubes, Styles, Report Parameter definitions, etc. This would
allow me to update one of the library elements (Data Set, Report
Parameter, etc) and have all the reports automatically update with the new
change. But this doesn't seem to work.
Styles seem fine but changes I make to a Data Set or Report Parameter
cause me a lot of trouble. To give one simple example, I updated a date
type parameter with a different date format string but this was not
correctly picked up in the reports. The only solution was to delete the
parameter in the report then re-add the library parameter to the report
and I had to do this for every report. Data Set changes cause me much
greater pain.
Have I misunderstood how libraries should be used?
I was using BIRT 2.3 but recently upgraded to 2.5 where I've been doing
most of my work.
Thanks,
Darren.

Darren,
Your understanding of libraries is correct. I just tried a parameter
and did not have an issue. If you are using the designer make sure to
preview with the WebViewer.
