The GMF Tutorial Part 2 contains this text: "In the future, graphical definitions will be done using a designer bootstrapped by GMF itself", and a reference is made to the GMF experimental SDK.

I've got the experimental SDK, but I can's find a visual editor... is there one?

Any info would be appreciated.

Lot's of views, but no answers, makes me think:

a) it's a stupid question Embarrassed or
b) nobody knows the answer Razz

Is there anywhere else I could post this question?

Once again, thanks in advance.

Hi,

as far as i know you have to install the GMF Experimental SDK to make it
available.

Thanks for the response.

As I mentioned above, I've got the experimental SDK, but I can's find a 'visual editor'. Have you actually seen it/run it?

This not a visual editor in the common way , it's a diagram editor,
and you can initialize it the common way by selecting a *.gmfgraph
resource and select "initialize gmfgraph_diagram diagram file"
but don't expect something usable.

greetings, urs.

I'm not sure either (don't have the experimental kit installed), just an
idea: I think you have to create a normal gmfgraph model and then there
should be the usual 'Initialize Diagram File' action in the context menu.

Hope this helps

Tobias, Urs,

thanks a lot for the info... I was able to initialize the diagram as you suggested.

As you say, it's not too useful, perhaps it will be in future releases.

I find the process of desiging complex visual elements (nodes, layouts, compartments, etc.) by editing the gmfgraph file to be pretty counter-intuitive, and the fact that you have to keep launching your editor to see the effect of each little change makes progress slow. That's why I was hoping for some kind of 'drawing' interface.

If you have any advice/tips/links about how to design this stuff, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks again.

Doesn't GMF support SVG figures? You could use any arbitrary SVG drawing
tool (e.g. inkscape) to create your figures and then just link them in
the gmfgraph model.

Hauke - thanks for the input. I think this approach and/or just using Custom Figures might work best for me.

Thanks.
