How to model an operation with concrete instanceSpecifications as inputs and output? [message #477163] Mon, 31 March 2008 09:39 Go to next message

Hello,

I would like to specify in UML that an instanceSpecification is the
result from an operation invocation. I also need to specify the
instanceSpecifications that correspond to the parameters of the invoked
operation. I did not find in the specification UML elements to model
this information. Did I miss something? Do I need to use stereotypes to
model this information? I do not want to model an interaction but just
the fact that an instance is the result of an operation invocation with
specific instances as parameters, a sort of "operation instance" with
concrete instances as inputs and output.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Axel

Hi Axel,

I think what you might be interested in is the ValueSpecification which is
the result of an operation being called. You can model this with
uml::Message:argument or the return message. You might want to create a
sequence diagram to model what you are trying to express.

You do not need stereotypes to model this.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,

- James.
