Question about standalone help [message #471295] Fri, 14 December 2007 08:08 Go to next message
Eclipse UserFriend
Hi,
in Eclipse 3.3.X or Eclipse 3.4 M3, when you launch the standalone help
by API without specifying the -port option, an available port seems to
be randomly selected.

Is there a proper way to know which port was selected, without relying
on internal API, ie:
org.eclipse.help.internal.standalone.Options.getConnectionFi le()

Thanks for your help,
Pierre

Hi Pierre,

The Eclipse 3.3 help topic says:
Start Eclipse with "-vmargs -Dserver_port=<port>"

(See
http://help.eclipse.org/stable/index.jsp?topic=/org.eclipse. platform.doc.isv/guide/ua_help_setup_preferences.htm

I'm not 100% sure how you pass it in when you launch the standalone help
by API. I am assuming that it might similar to how you would pass in
other startup options (like "-eclipsehome"), but because it is a
-vmargs, I'm not completely sure how it would work.

Hope this helps,
Lee Anne

I don't pass it. That's why I wrote "without specifying the -port option".

Pierre
