Modeling of uml model created with uml2 [message #470724] Mon, 14 May 2007 10:36 Go to next message

Hi,

This is some what of a newbie question but I'd like to be sure of where I
stand.

If I use the MDT-UML2 plugin as a model framework and I want to be able to
create and edit models graphically then is this easily possible with
UML2Tools?
I've looked at EMF and from what I gather it is possible to graphically edit
models after a graphical model definition has been created.
Has a graphical model definition been made for the MDT-UML project?
And are there any good documents or tutorials regarding UML2Tools?

Basically what I'm looking for is a good meta-model to work with (UML2) and
a good framework in which I can graphically create/edit
models without having to define/program the basics with.

thx,

regards,

Nick

Nick,

looks like might have found what you are looking for. UML2Tools is a
collection of GMF-based graphical editors for UML2 models. So far, Class
diagrams, Activities, State machines, Component diagrams and Profile
diagrams are supported. Note that UML2Tools has not yet reached 1.0 but
is already very usable.

The editors are created using the Graphical Modeling Framework. They are
easily extandandable and modifyable. AFAIK, there is no tutorial on
UML2Tools yet. I recommend installing them and playing around; the
editors are pretty much self-explaining. Choose M6 (of all
requirements!) or wait until the end of this week and go for M7/RC0.

Have fun,
Chris

Chris,

This sounds like what I'm looking for too. All I want to do is model a
simple Class diagram.

However, for the life of me, I can't get UML2Tools to work. I've installed
all pre-requisites (including Eclipse 3.3) and I have no options for UML2 on
the New... menu. I'm admittedly a newbie. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

Best regards,
Scott

Scott,

Have you tried eclipse.exe -clean? There might be clues about what's
wrong in the Error Log view (or in the <workspace>/.metadata/.log).
