Hi,

I got the source code of the projects org.eclipse.swt and
org.eclipse.swt.win32.win32.x86 from CVS and built them by myself
according to the instruction given in SWT FAQ
( http://dev.eclipse.org/viewcvs/index.cgi/%7Echeckout%7E/plat form-swt-home/faq.html#whereissourcecode).

Then I replaced org.eclipse.swt.win32.win32.x86_3.1.0.jar and
org.eclipse.swt_3.1.0.jar originally in the eclipse installation directory
with the ones I built. When I tried to start Eclipse after replacing the
files, I got a bunch of exceptions similar to the one below. What's the
proper way of running Eclipse using my own SWT jar? Is there any
instruction I can look at?

Thanks,
Connie

Hi Connie,

The problem is most likely that you have not properly packaged the SWT classes that you built into a proper Eclipse plugin.
The thing is that the .jar file included in the Eclipse IDE does not contain just .class files, it also includes some manifest
files that tell Eclipse what is in the jar file. I noticed that the instrcutions that you followed didn't say anything about
these files.
Compare your jar to the original jar that came with the Eclipse IDE and you'll see what I mean.
The extra manifest files that I'm talking about are included in the eclipse\plugins\org.eclipse.rcp.source.win32.win32.x86_3.1.0
folder.

Ted, thanks for your help. I've finally got it working!

What I did is add the missing files (fragment.properties,
javaw.exe.manifest, dlls...) to my org.eclipse.swt.win32.win32.x86.jar. I
also replaced the MANIFEST.MF in my jar with the one from CVS.

Thanks again,
Connie
