Using Firefox instead of Mozilla [message #451623] Thu, 03 March 2005 14:14 Go to next message

I have a question regarding embedded browsers in SWT.
I have successfully installed an SWT based browser with Mozilla 1.4 -
1.6. However, those browsers have real problems with Motion JPEG created
by AXIS cams.
Firefox 1.0.1 seems to work nicely with AXIS cams so I have to use
Firefox instead of Mozilla. Can I do that with SWT?
Does anybody have a recent version of Firefox working reliably?

Best regards,

hans

Embedding Firefox does not work, because Firefox has the Gecko engine
statically linked, at least for now.

You can compile firefox from source, or use compiled mozilla >= 1.7
It work with eclipse >= 3.1

Sorry for the OT question.
But why don't you use Mozilla on _all_ platforms?
First, you get rid of IE (security, css, xhtml, png, ....).
Second, it's exactly the same on every platform.

Oh no,
having a user install 14 megs JRE to run you 80k application is enought,
ask him to install another 6 megs browser and it will be too much.
Browser is quite often used to show HTML from your application (like a
nice report or similar stuff) ... so security is not always a concern.

I agree on your idea if there could be a property like "use mozilla
first, if present".
