Hi,

Maybe this isn't the best newsgroup to ask this question, but here it
goes anyway :)

I'm very interested in using Java+SWT to develop PocketPC applications.
What's the best solution to develop this, regarding a good (and free)
JVM and the most stable SWT release on this platform?

Thanks in advance,

Rui

Hi Rui,

Questions on SWT and Pocket PC are definitively welcome here ;-)

See the SWT FAQ "What do I need to do to run SWT on the Pocket PC?"
http://dev.eclipse.org/viewcvs/index.cgi/%7Echeckout%7E/plat form-swt-home/faq.html#pocketpcstart
It contains links to download a free trial version of WSDD that contains the
j9 VM for Pocket PC. You can ask further questions about that j9 VM to the
following newsgroup:
news://news.software.ibm.com/ibm.software.websphere.studio.d evice-developer
Other users can suggest other VMs.

You can use SWT 3.0.1 for the Pocket PC - you can also use SWT 3.1 Milestone
2 that has just been released. These ports are available under the Eclipse
download page "SWT Binary and Source" Windows CE (ARM Pocket PC).

Regarding the j9 VM for PocketPC, is it also a trial version? Also, it
seems to me (please correct me if i'm wrong) that the j9 VM implements
only the J2ME version of Java. Aren't there free VMs (specially
implementing J2SE) out there, for PocketPC? The problem is that i would
like to port some applications built with libraries that use J2SE.

Thanks again,

Rui

Not at all. You can use it against different profiles - foundation, CDC,
CLDC, that are part of WSDD trial version. Please ask for info on the j9 VM
to their newsgroup:
