Is there a way to build GUIs in Eclipse using real swing components rather than
SWT? For example the way it is done in JDeveloper by dragging components from a
menu onto a pallette? I really do not want to learn yet another set of widgets.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking... but if you're looking for a GUI
designer for Swing in Eclipse, check out the Visual Editor Project at
http://www.eclipse.org/vep/

If you are looking for a Swing GUI builder that runs in Eclipse, take a look
at Swing Designer...

http://www.swing-designer.com/

It is available in free, non-commercial and cimmercial versions. A companion
SWT Designer is also available, if you decide that you want to try SWT
(especially necessary, if you ever want to develop your own Eclipse
plugins).
