There doesn't seem to be an abstraction layer for printing that lets me
focus on what I want to print instead of the mechanics of putting it on
paper (keeping track of how much of the page you've used up, writing your
own word-wrap routines for text, etc).
What I want is an API that gives me some way to compose a document, give
the system hints about how I want it laid out on paper, and let the API
worry about line-wrapping, autosizing, and related concerns. Is there a
module in Eclipse that does this, that I haven't found yet?
Before anyone brings up BIRT, I've already looked at it. I need something
to help me print *documents*, not reports. The tabular
header-detail-footer paradigm does not fit what I'm trying to do.
Has anybody else come across this problem? Any solutions that you've
found to work well?
