Generic Web Connector timeout [message #43654] Tue, 19 February 2008 17:57 Go to next message

I'm a developer on IBM's Community Source (based on GForge 4.5) and I'm
doing some testing of Mylyn. I'm using RSA 7 (Eclipse 3.2) and Mylyn 2.0
with the Generic Web Repository. I know that's downlevel, but as I'm not a
user of Eclipse, I didn't really want to upgrade to get to a higher level.

I've got everything working until I turn off anonymous access. Our GForge
uses a LDAP database for authentication that takes a bit of time to
respond. I'm getting a resource timeout message well before I know that
LDAP would respond. Is there a way to set this timeout value or is this
fixed in a later version of Mylyn?

I'd actually prefer someone in our community to step up and do a GForge
connector that uses the SOAP API. That doesn't seem likely since the
community seems to expect the CS dev team to do that and we don't have
time. :)

I think Mylyn 2.0 is the latest version supported on Eclipse 3.2, but
more recent web connector may work on Mylyn 2.0 (though I haven't tried
that). So might worth to try to update the web connector using one of
the "extras" update sites from http://www.eclipse.org/mylyn/downloads/
or from the archives section.

I believe there was few fixes in the web connector that might be
relevant to accessing GForge trackers.

Unfortunately timeout is hard-coded and in Mylyn 2.1 it been increased
to 60 seconds. Please comment and vote to the following bug report:

180335: Make network IO timeout values configurable
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=180335

The problem is that this setting is in Mylyn core and as far as I know
Mylyn 2.1 is not supported on Eclipse 3.2.

You should probably contact GForge group about Mylyn connector. They
do have their own Eclipse plugin and didn't want to reimplement
functionality in Mylyn connector while ago. Maybe they would change
their mind this time. Surely there is plenty developers who know how to
develop Mylyn connectors around.
