Howdie!

my current customer is getting into sales with our CDO based prototype.
He's wondering if there's any viable fail-over strategy for CDO? As far
as I know there's no solution at this time. Parts of the solution might
be the works on de-/reattaching objects. What about database
replication? Any ideas?

Cheers + Thanks
André

Hi André,

While I worked on an IFailOverStrategy framework it turned out that both
Net4j and CDO would need to be deeply refactored to reliably support
state transfer of a CDOSession from one IChannel to another one. Many
questions are open in this regard:

201267: Failover strategy for CDO/NET4J
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=201267

Long ago Simon filed this one:

203167: Multiple CDO Servers (failover+loadbalancing)
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=203167

Cheers
/Eike

I checked both bugzillas and the resume might be: there's no failover
strategy for the moment, but thoughts are present and there'll be
something in the future.
So I assume that the best classic solution for now would be to have a
solid database backup and some kind of watchdog-driven server restart. I
guess the client would have to be restarted/open a new session whenever
the connection drops, right?

Cheers
