Hi all,

We are developing wrapper classes around swtbot for GUI automation of our
products. The classes were designed based on swtbot v2.0.0.204. However,
with the last release, some of the classes/methods in swtbot changed and
broke the wrappers that we had written. Some really useful functionality
was added to swtbot, especially the scoping (microbot) functionality for
the bot. But it did take some time for us to actually make those changes
in the wrapper classes.

The question I have is - Is there a rough estimate that anyone can provide
us of the expected gap between two successive swtbot releases... so that
we can prepare for such an event. I know the period between the last two
releases was around 5-6 months. But is it likely to be around the same
time in the future too?

Its great to see new things happening in swtbot. The last release actually
made a lot of things simpler and we incorporated them into our classes.
But it would definitely be better if we are prepared for such a situation.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Bhooshan.

Thanks for finally asking this question :)

Earlier releases of SWTBot used to be very frequent -- every week or so.
The last particular release was an exception for many reasons:
- major work on native events
- not having enough time on my hands to get things done (SWTBot is not
my full time job)
- me having to go off on a family emergency for a while

Having said that -- I do understand that this is not an excuse for
delaying releases, and I'm hoping to get back on track to a release
early release often schedule I'd promised earlier[1]. The replies had
suggested that a monthly schedule is what most people preferred.

I also see another problem with what you state -- lack of communication
at my end for users to be prepared for changes, and I hope to do better.

But I hope that you understand that SWTBot is my hobby and I spend about
25-30 hours a week on it in addition to my 50-60 hour work week and
there are too many things to do which miss my minuscule brain.

Hi Ketan,

Thanks a lot for your reply. I fully understand the difficulties you face.
I really think swtbot is a wonderful tool and so we would like to
incorporate all the additions you make to it. I had just posted the
question so that we are better prepared for a release in the future. Now
that we know that there would be monthly release, it would help us prepare
better for it.

Thanks and keep up the good work! :)

Bhooshan.

Of course the best way to ensure frequent releases, a high quality
product and good communication is for others to step in and contribute.

If your organization benefits from SWTBot it makes sense to invest in it!
