Hi there,
I have about 100+ reports that uses a single data source that is connected
to an externalized connection profile defined in a file (e.g
myDataSource.dat). The file is unencrypted but allows me to modify the
database location, login credentials and etc..As we all know, opening the
file will give the XML type of configuration.
Externalizing the connection profile makes it easier for me to handle. But
considering the scenario of moving from development to live production
environment in the space of 2 months, I am really concerned on that matter
above and I need to get some info that will help me to solve my problems.
1. If I modify the URL value in the .dat file in a machine without the
BIRT RCP designer (e.g deploying in a live environment), will the report
generated displays results based on the DB (schema and URL values) that
got changed?
2. Currently, the location of the connection profile file is stored as
like 'C:\.....\datasource.dat'. That will work in a local development
environment machine, but when in production, I might want to specify an
absolute path to find that file. But however, I have no idea how to do it,
so can anyone provide steps to do that?
Yes, I admit I need some answers asap because I need to solve this problem
due to other work urgencies.
Thanks in advance.

I assume you have seen this based on another question on the bex forum.
I will reply to it as well.
