I have Eclipse 3.4 Ganymede + BIRT install on my OS X Leopard system. I
was able to create a report, but would not like to view it within an
Eclipse View. It seems that BIRT is not able to open the Preview in an
internal browser (although internal browser works on 3.4 & Leopard), with
"Internal browser is not available" in the Preview tab.

What's my best bet in embedding a chart in a View? Direct with the BIRT
chart engine?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

I am not sure I understand the issue. The preview tab in BIRT uses and
SWT Browser. The chart engine supports many output formats (image based
and SVG) if you only want a chart.

Jason, yes I may have overcomplicated my question. The issue is that the
designer preview on my 3.4 OS X setup _does not_ work on the internal SWT
browser. Instead it displays that "Internal browser not supported" message
on that pane and opens up the rendering on the external browser.

Why isn't the BIRT preview on OS X supported?

Mike

Mike,

I do not see a bug for this. What package did you download?

I have see the same, with eclipse-reporting-ganymede-SR1-macosx-carbon.tar; the link is 'Eclipse IDE
for Java and Report Developers (194 MB)' on http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/

Sometimes the report appears twice in an external browser with one selection of 'preview'.

The same report works just fine with the stand-alone BIRT designer on Windows.

Regards,
Colin

The prompt message means the embedded SWT browser is not
available(usable) in current environment, it depends on the Eclipse
support for specific OS and Browsers. You can try open the Eclipse Help
system from the top menu, by default it should also open in an embedded
browser, if that doesn't work too, then it means the embedded browser is
not supported in current system. Otherwise, please file a bug in
bugzilla so we can look into it.

Eclipse Help appears on a separate window. There was no BIRT 2.3.2 preview window with the Mac OS
10.4 (Tiger) version of eclipse and it is still the same with the Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) version
and BIRT 2.5.1. It's not a big deal as the preview displays OK in Safari.

IMO, its a "medium deal" because you lose the integrated feel. You *can* get help in the integrated browser by selecting "Dynamic Help" so this seems supportable.
