Correct me if I am wrong, but v1.2rc1 of AspectJ has been released and
not v1.2rc1 of AJDT (the plugin for eclipse). So, I am guessing that
there will be no update available via the update site.

AJDT 1.1.7 already uses AJ 1.2RC1, so should 1.1.8
