I tried to install the updated Golang plugin. But I need to remove my CDT C/C++ tools before I can proceed with Golang. Otherwise, the Eclipse IDE is running ok.

Golang support is not provided by an Eclipse project. You should find their listing and from that listing find where to ask questions about it:
