Please fight the drift [message #1847553] Mon, 01 November 2021 07:15 Go to next message

Hi y'all,

- "link rot" and "content drift"
- humble question(s) concering "the fight"

I today learned about the term "content drift" while searching for a nicer term than "link rot" from this fine article here (It is a nice read, maybe you second that opinion)

"link rot" and "content drift"
i would like to mention that some of the URLs contained in https://www.eclipse.org/jubula/documentation.php
- are dead (link rot as for example: Subshell blog entry on extending Jubula (pre-Kepler)) - no useful content left there
- have "transformed" (content drift as for example: testing.bredex.de) - the former wealth of content is gone or has (hopefully) transformed somewhere else without reference

humble question concering "the fight"
- could you maybe invest some time into "the fight"? (as in: remove/reanimate the rotten parts and polish the drifted back to former quality)
- is there something that could be done here in this little niche of the eclipse interwebs to help?

Here for example at the bottom you describe the contained "wealth of contents" i mentioned earlier.

To close with something a bit positive: I just found the blog search where i can filter by tags. And having filtered by tags (e.g.: jubula) i already re-found some helpful content there, like the one above.

I understand that fighting that fight is effectively an investment (of someones time), and as such i can only appeal to addressing this matter.

cheers
Daniel

P.S.: I just traveled through the URLs of https://www.eclipse.org/jubula/download.php and would like to share the findings, too:
General
- ! any URL starting with "testing.bredex.de" resolve to "www.bredex.de/jubula"

Download Jubula
- ! 8.8.0 is not mentioned as the latest standalone Download
- B URL for "Eclipse for Testers" leads to a Page not containing "Eclipse for Testers" (package maybe not part of latest release?)

Jubula tools
- ! the linked Pages are dead (help.eclipse.org tries to redirect to latest documentation, which is not available. is there a way to search mars docu?)

Older versions
- B No Older versions available at suggested URL (see general findings)

Jubula documentation
- B No Documentation under "Documentation" (more specific: also help.eclipse.org is without jubula section - is there a way to search mars docu?)

Oh, look at that. The Internet Archive has our backs:

testing.bredex.de in the state of "sometime 2019"

One can relish the former "wealth of contents" there ... (and thankfully consume (most of?) it from there, too \o/ )

Thanks for all the findings,
some of the things i will address right now(In specific the Eclipse website parts).
But other parts are not in my hands anymore. We have removed the testing.bredex.de Website because it was not really used and visited anymore.
We removed Older Jubula versions in 2019.
I am at the moment talking to get some Information back into the bredex website.

best regards
Marvin Mueller
