macOS 10.15.7
CDT 2021-06

Updated from whatever a new install of 2021-06 would have been to 10.4.0 after several tries (similar to what I describe below, but it apparently worked at some point), but now updating to 10.4.1 keeps failing.

Using the built-in "Check for Updates" starting point. (image #1)

Then get "Problem Occurred" dialog (image #2)

An error occurred while uninstalling
session context was:(profile=_Users_gwillits_Applications_Eclipse.app_Contents_Eclipse, phase=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.p2.engine.phases.Uninstall, operand=[R]org.eclipse.cdt 10.4.0.202106130052 --> [R]org.eclipse.cdt 10.4.1.202109142059, action=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.p2.touchpoint.eclipse.actions.UninstallBundleAction).
Error while loading manipulator.
Error while loading manipulator.

Poking around, and stumbled across "Perform Setup Tasks" which listed P2 Director (image #3)

Don't know what it is, but correlates to complaints in the error dialog, so I gave that a run, which also spit out errors (image #4).

I've searched & read, but nothing I've found seems to correlate.

Short of a complete reinstall from scratch which I've had to do with other update failures (and involves a great deal of rework every time), are there any ideas how to work around this?

Many thanks for reading & thinking about it.
