The Eclipse Foundation, a global leading software organization enabling developer-focused open source innovation, 375 collaborative projects and over 240 million lines of code, has recently moved to Europe and is growing its European team!
We are looking for a European-based Senior Linux Systems Administrator to join our existing IT team in supporting the Eclipse Community, with a preference for Germany, France, Italy or Belgium. The successful
candidate will work from home, and choose their own tools (laptop, OS, etc.)!
As a senior member of a small, dynamic IT team responsible for the management, growth and evolution, and maintenance of the Eclipse IT Infrastructure and supporting Eclipse committers and project teams, you will be able to have a significant impact on Eclipse Foundation's overall success. Our server environment consists mainly of headless Linux servers, Apache httpd and nginx, Kubernetes, MariaDB & PostgreSQL, git, Gerrit, Gitlab and php applications.
Primary Responsibilities include:
- In conjunction with the overall IT team, liaise with the broad Eclipse community on infrastructure and IT related issues, including through forums, GitHub Issues, etc.
- With other members in the team, provide after-hour coverage and problem resolution.
- Help plan and build cool solutions that solve the problem, and just work.
- Support, patch and update physical and virtual server environments, including Kubernetes container and cluster operations.
- Support and improve the best practices of the IT team, including testing, proactive maintenance, documentation, etc.
Job Skills and Requirements:
You master: Linux system administration, CLI and SSH, TCP/IP networking & troubleshooting, Apache httpd, Postfix, nginx
You can: Script (Perl, PHP, Bash, Python), automate tasks, maintain MariaDB & PostgreSQL databases, figure things out
It would be great if you knew: Kubernetes, Docker, Xen/libvirt/qemu, Jenkins, Git, Eclipse, network Security (GPG, Firewalls, OpenSSL)
Experience, Education and other Skills
- Relevant work experience in a 24/7 Linux Enterprise Server environment
- A college diploma/university degree, or relevant work experience
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
- Solid problem solving skills and attention to detail
- Interest in both learning new technologies and identifying efficiencies and improvements to processes
- Excellent project/task management skills
- Able to work well with others in a small team
- Self-starter, resourceful, and ability to work remotely
