I've recently upgraded to a new Mac from my old one.

When transferring over it has created a new user file name.

when trying to install eclipse, it keeps trying to write to the old user, and won't let me download.

Ive tried whipping eclipse from my laptop and it still doesn't work

any ideas on how I can make eclipse "forget" the old user and install on the new one.

Cheers

It's not entirely clear what you mean.

Information is stored in the hidden folders ~/.eclipse and ~/.p2 so if you copy such folders from one "user" to another, the contents of nested files from these folders are likely have references to files in the original location.
