Using papyrus through eclipse

When adding a class attribute, its type must be selected

the type select drop down gives an incredibly long list of of options listing every element in the model, ... except, ... basic classes defined in the class diagram itself.

Is the only possible modeling options using a composition relation ? From other UML tools I am used that I can create attributes typed after classes in the diagram (to avoid polluting the diagram with a zillion relations)
