I'm running the latest Linux mint 20 Ulyana and have recently updated eclipse.
The problem did exist before and still exists with the update.
Basically the titles in some dialogs seem to be in hex.

Eclipse IDE for Java
Version: 2020-06 (4.16.0)
Build id: 20200615-1200

Any pointers would be helpfull

It looks like an issue with a missing bold font. The unicode value displayed in each box is the expected one for the actual text "Select a directory as workspace" so that's why I think it's a font issue. But I can't find any Bugzilla report that seems related...

Many thanks, this put me on track. I installed the windows fonts using synaptic, but the following command would also work.
sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer.

ReStarted Eclispe and all is well.
