I have created a project nature and specified the icon which should

Works great, I can create my project with the desired nature. The
project icon appears in the Project Explorer.
However, in the upper left corner of the project icon, there appears a
tiny red square slightly overlapped by my project icon. It is as a
second icon were expected.
Or is the red square complaining about the dimension of my icon? I have
tried different icons, but this little red square always appears next to
my project icon.
Any hints?

I disabled all decorations in the app as you described, yet the red
square is still there.
