How does a remote client (not the browser) authenticate with the server to use the one of the APIs?

For example, using postman, and making this call:

GET / gitapi / clone / workspace / {: workspace_id} /

I am shown the login page and not my actual workspace. I also tried to insert a basic auth with my credentials but the problem persists.
