How do I manually drop plugins into an eclipse install in 3.5M7? [message #335963]

I first tried dropping the plugin jar into the plugins directory. That
didn't work. Then I tried dropping it into the dropins directory in all
three supposedly supported formats (1 - directly under dropins; 2 - under
dropins/eclipse/plugins, 3 - under
dropins/<nameOfMyChoice>/eclipse/plugins). Nothing worked.

I guess using the Equinox p2 UI would solve my problem. But from the
documentation, it sounds like this is an entirely separate application that
I'd have to install. That's a lot of overhead to drop a single plugin into
my environment.

Putting the plugin in the dropins folder should work. Have you
restarted your Eclipse install after dropping the plugin into the
dropins folder?

Have you checked to log file to see if there is a problem resolving the
plugins you are trying to dropin.

Yes.

There was no mention of the problem in the log.

I have found that I generally need to restart Eclipse with the -clean option
before the plug-ins are properly recognized in the dropins directory.
