I'm not sure if this is the right forum.

We see sometimes editors behaving like in the attached image. It isn't a screen rendering issue because scrolling in the editor scrolls the weird characters like normal.

This is with Eclipse 4.9, on RHEL7.

Has anyone seen anything like this, and can point to a possible solution?

best regards,
Vlad

Actual weird characters (as opposed to a rendering problem) is generally caused by interpreting a file with an encoding different from the correct one. But to me this looks more like weird rending...

Hi Ed,

You are right, I used the wrong word. The editor displays parts of the text's characters, the first few columns repeated over and over.

I meant that I don't think it's a rendering problem from the OS, as the editor contents scrolls when navigating in it. Could it be a SWT issue? If yes, it would be reasonable to think others have seen it.

regards,
Vlad

I managed to reproduce this myself and it's not exactly as I wrote in the initial question.

This happens when scrolling horizontally in the editor, using the scroll bar.

Moving the cursor, or clicking in the editor makes the affected lines be rendered correctly. Scrolling up and down renders all lines correctly.

I found https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=530693 which looks like the same issue.
