I have a pure e4 RCP application that I want to be able to run in a headless, interactive TUI mode. I did this back in the 3.8 days by interrupting the createAndRunWorkbench() call.

I found a blogpost talking about how this is not possible in e4 but suggested ways to make it possible. (http://ssdots.blogspot.com/2015/04/eclipse-4-e4-creating-eclipse-rcp.html)

Has there been any progress on this? I still have a real need to do this.

Is there any specific reason why it has to be an e4 RCP application? If it is supposed to be headless, I believe you won't need much of the framework. You could run it as a pure OSGI application but still use the classic product definition.
