It was unclear to me whether comments on OpenUP should be posted here or in some other location. I want to call attention to the elaboration activity 'Define the Architecture', which is broken down into a 'Develop Solution Increment' activity followed by a 'Refine the Architecture' activity. The 'Define the Architecture' activity is not the primary responsibility of an architect, but rather of the developer.
In parallel within the elaboration phase, a separate 'Develop Solution Increment' is also provided. This reuse construct is confusing, and I would appreciate clarification of the intent behind it. It would seem that in the first case, the intent might be to provide for prototyping of architecture elements, though if this is the case, it should be more explicitly explained.
Can anyone help explain the intent behind these constructs?
