marketplace not in help menu/PyDev installed but not working [message #1775881] Tue, 07 November 2017 10:16 Go to next message

Hi, I'm new to programming and wanted to learn python on Eclipse. I followed tutorials on installing pydev into Eclipse Oxygen but when I go to window -> preferences, no pydev or python tools, after restarting, appear. I've searched for answers but I'm lost.

I'm using Linux Mint KDE 18.2 and did try installing Java's latest version, not sure if I did it correctly.

In Install/Update -> Avaliable Software Site PyDev appears

Exactly what steps did you do?

I did this here:

http://www.pydev.org/manual_101_install.html

And tried following a Mint tutorial on installing Java to replace what Mint has in it, I'll search for that, bear with me.

That's a tutorial for Java 7, and you would need Java 8 as the PyDev manual says. You've added PyDev to the Available software sites, but did you actually go through the steps to install it from there?

Yes, I did it but with Java8.

So what step past that that I haven't done, is there a tutorial?

This is the next step, but the pydev option won't appear under window -> preferrences. Did the tutorial skip something?
