See this section https://wiki.eclipse.org/Eclipse/Installation You'll need at Java 8 64 bit VM installed, and if you don't modify the eclipse.ini, it needs to be the one on the system path. If you've installed Java 9, this will be relevant: https://wiki.eclipse.org/Configure_Eclipse_for_Java_9
