New Installation Doesn't Work [message #1766136] Fri, 16 June 2017 06:21
Eclipse UserFriend
Hi

I have a book called "Head First Android Development". It tells me to install Eclipse Classic. This seems to be an old option because I didn't see it.

I installed Eclipse for Android.

The book then tells me to install the Android Developer Tools plugin, which I did. Maybe this wasn't necessary with the version of Eclipse that I installed.

At startup, I get this error:

"Failed to get the required ADT version number from the SDK.
The Android Developer Toolkit may not work properly."

I click the "Open SDK Manager" button and I get told that the SDK Manager will show up shortly, but it never does.

I also get this error:

"A valid AVD (Android Virtual Device) was not detected. Do you want to create one?"

I say yes and then I get a window that says:

"You must select one ABI type to create an AVD. If none are available, use the Android SDK Manager to download the ABI"

None are available and, of course, I still can't open the SDK Manager.

I also get this in the DDMS window:

"
[2017-06-16 11:32:41 - ddms] Could not open Selected VM debug port (8700). Make sure you do not have another instance of DDMS or of the eclipse plugin running. If it's being used by something else, choose a new port number in the preferences.
[2017-06-16 11:32:41 - DDMS] DDMS files not found: C:\Android\sdk\tools\traceview.bat "

Under Window, Preferences, I had two "Android" entries on the left. After uninstalling the ADT plugin, I now only have one entry and the "[2017-06-16 11:32:41 - ddms] Could not open Selected VM debug port (8700)..." error is also gone.

I wanted to uninstall and try reinstall, but Windows doesn't even list Eclipse as being installed at all!?

Any ideas?
(Even if it's just how to uninstall this mess.)

Thanks.
