The code that we design and the code that we release are not necessarily the same. The production code that we release may go through some transformation and processing in order to be optimized for maximum efficiency.

Currently, this is most visible in the front-end area. In Dirigible when we Publish WebContent, we ship exactly the same code that we designed to the repository and it is then served as-is by the runtime.

In real life though, there would be an intermediate step, where using something like Gulpjs (http://gulpjs.com/) we would concatenate and minify the application artifacts for optimal serving on the web and that's a minimum. In fact, depending on the technology we use a number of other processing may be required too.

Perhaps, that could be extended also to different runtimes, i.e. we could integrate optimization tools for each as required.
